8HP Build Packages & Build Paths
A ZF 8HP build is rarely one part. It is a gearbox, a control strategy, an engine interface, a converter and a driveline that all have to agree before the car makes a clean pull. This page is where the build packages and the options that go inside them sit, so you can move from "I think I need an 8HP" to the exact box, stage and hardware your project needs.
If you have not chosen the transmission code yet, start with which 8HP transmission to buy, then come back here with the code, the engine and the torque target in hand.
Start with the code, not the badge
8HP45, 8HP50, 8HP51, 8HP70, 8HP75, 8HP76 and 8HP90 are different boxes with different internals, converters and output arrangements. The stage you need follows the torque you intend to make and the way you intend to control it, not the model name on the boot lid.
- Gearboxes we currently have listed, priced by mileage: ZF 8HP gearboxes
- Control and wiring choices: TCU controllers and harnesses
- Engine to gearbox adapters: engine adapter kits
- Clutches, drums and hard parts: clutch and internal packages
Built8HP stages: Stage 1 to Stage 3+
Built8HP is the built-box line: an 8HP core stripped, checked and rebuilt to a defined stage. Each listing states what is included at that stage, so compare the listings rather than guessing from the name.
Tell us the engine, the torque you are actually targeting and how the car will be used (street, drag, drift, circuit) and we will point you at the stage that suits the build instead of the most expensive one on the page.
Billet options that go inside the build
These are upgrades specified with a stage, not instead of one. They are listed separately so you can see exactly what is being added to the box.
- Billet torque converter
- Billet main shaft
- Billet deep transmission pan, and the 8HP90/95 version
- Seal rebuild kit
Dodson build packages
Dodson builds are specified by torque target. The package name carries the rating and the listing carries what is inside it.
- Dodson Sportsman 800Nm+ build package
- Dodson Pro 1200Nm+ build package
- Dodson Pro Max 1400Nm build package
- Converter supplied inside a Dodson package, for builds where the converter is matched as part of the package
Installation, labour and complete conversion packages
Some projects need the box built and fitted, not just supplied. These listings cover the workshop side and full conversion packages.
- Done-For-You installation package
- Full box rebuild, two days labour
- Toyota 1VD-FTV to ZF 8HP conversion package
- Other done-for-you options: done-for-you services
Build paths by engine and chassis
The fastest way to price a package is to start from a build that already looks like yours. These pages cover the common platforms and the parts decisions that go with them.
- 1000HP BMW 8HP build
- S58 8HP76 build
- B58 8HP76 build
- RB26 8HP76 build
- 1500HP RB26 8HP build
- 2JZ 8HP76 build
- Barra 8HP76 build

What to confirm before you order
- The transmission code and the tag on the gearbox, not just the model it came out of
- Engine, bellhousing pattern and starter arrangement
- Which controller and harness will run it, and who is calibrating it
- Converter choice, and whether it is supplied or reused
- Output flange, driveshaft and the diff side of the driveline
- Cooling: cooler size, lines, thermostat and where the heat goes
- Shifter and electronics: paddles, sequential, or a factory selector
Freight, lead time and what is included are confirmed on each listing before you order. If any line above is still open, ask first. Getting the package right before the box is built is cheaper than correcting it afterwards.
8HP build package questions
Do I need a built 8HP or will a stock gearbox do?
A stock 8HP is the starting point for most swaps. A built package is specified when the torque target, the way the car is used or the converter sits outside what the standard box and calibration are being asked to do. If you are not sure, tell us the engine and the torque target and we will say plainly whether a build is needed.
Can I buy the build and the gearbox together?
Yes. The gearboxes we have listed are priced with their recorded mileage. If you need a specific code, or a donor that is not currently listed, ask and we will tell you what is available rather than guess.
What does the stage number actually change?
Each stage adds specific internal hardware. The listing for each stage states what is included, and higher stages are built for more torque and harder use. Compare the four listings side by side, and ask if you want the difference between two stages spelled out before you commit.
Do you fit the box or supply only?
Both paths exist. The installation and labour listings cover the workshop side. Supply-only is normal for customers who already have a builder, and we will still confirm the controller, converter and driveline plan with you.
Not sure which stage your build needs?
Send the engine, the gearbox code you are working with and the torque you are targeting. We will tell you which package fits, what else the conversion needs, and what it will take to get it to you.
