Contrôleurs TCU et faisceaux
Shop ZF 8HP transmission controllers, wiring harnesses and control hardware for swap and conversion projects. Compare CanTCU, TurboLamik, MaxxECU and Emtron paths only after confirming the exact gearbox, engine management, vehicle signals, shifter plan and who will configure the finished car.
Which 8HP controller fits your build?
A transmission controller is not a standalone part. It is the system that decides when the gearbox shifts, how much line pressure it runs and how the driver's inputs are interpreted. Two builds with the same gearbox can need different controllers because the engine ECU, the wiring path and the person tuning the car are different. Product-specific information on each listing always takes priority over this overview.
On a phone, swipe the table sideways to compare all four columns.
| Controller | What the listing includes | Listed price | Usually the starting point when |
|---|---|---|---|
| CanTCU CANFORMANCE 8HP & DCT | Controller with harness | $3,595 | BMW-heavy builds and DCT or 8HP conversions where factory-style integration matters |
| CanTCU controller only | Controller, no harness | $2,639.32 | You already have the correct CanTCU harness for your gearbox |
| MaxxECU 8HP Controller | Controller only, harness listed separately | $3,995 plus $699 harness | MaxxECU already runs the engine and you want one tuning ecosystem |
| TurboLamik ZF8HP TCU | TCU with harness | $3,595 | You want a complete controller-and-harness kit at the lowest all-in price |
| TurboLamik TCU 2.0 package | Controller, harness, LCD screen and mode switch | $4,397.24 | You want visible feedback, switchable driving modes and the full cabin package |
| Emtron TM16 TCM | Transmission control module, 8HP base calibration | $4,180, or $4,700 with the 8-button keypad | An Emtron ECU is already running the car and you want the highest-capability transmission control |
| Haltech TCU | In development, price to be announced | Price TBA | You are planning a future Haltech-controlled build and want launch information |
| LinkECU TCU | In development, price to be announced | Price TBA | You already run a Link ECU and want to stay in that ecosystem |
Prices above are the current listed prices on each product page in AUD. Confirm the listing before ordering, because included parts, availability and pricing can change.
Match the controller to the gearbox and the engine ECU
There is no single controller that is automatically correct for every ZF 8HP. Start from what is already in the car:
- Engine ECU first. If the car already runs MaxxECU, Emtron, Haltech or Link, staying inside that ecosystem usually means fewer adapters, one tuning tool and one person to call when the CAN data does not line up.
- Gearbox generation second. Older 8HP45, 8HP70 and 8HP90 units are widely supported. Newer 8HP51 and 8HP76 units depend on the controller's firmware and the valve body fitted, so confirm the exact code before committing.
- BMW-specific builds. CanTCU has the deepest BMW coverage, including DCT and later 8HP applications, which is why it appears so often in BMW conversion threads.
- Multi-platform and budget builds. TurboLamik covers a broad spread of 8HP variants and is the usual choice where the engine management is not tied to one brand.
- Maximum capability. The Emtron TM16 is a fully programmable transmission control module and sits at the top of the range for complex driveline control.
If you cannot confirm which combination your build needs, send the gearbox code, vehicle, engine, ECU and power target before ordering. The CanTCU buyer guide and the Emtron, CanTCU and TurboLamik comparison go deeper on the three most common paths.
Harnesses, adapters and displays
The harness is where most 8HP conversions lose time. A controller that arrives without the right loom can add weeks of wiring work, and a plug-and-play harness is only plug-and-play for the gearbox and chassis it was built for.
- CanTCU 8HP / DCT plug-and-play harness - $1,368.44
- CanTCU plug-and-play harness - $957.85
- CanTCU flying-lead harness - $195.32 for custom wiring into an existing loom
- Canbridge Lite - $124.95 where a bridge module is needed
- MaxxECU 8HP harness - $699
- Emtron TM16 ABC wiring harness - $495
- PMC TCU harness for Nissan Patrol Y61 - $821.91 for that specific application
- CanChecked MFD15 Gen2 with sub-harness - $674.35 for live display data
What a controller does not solve
A controller manages the gearbox electronics. It does not fix mechanical fitment, bellhousing or adapter alignment, flexplate and converter matching, cooling capacity or a worn transmission. Those are separate decisions, and getting them wrong is expensive no matter which controller you buy:
- Engine adapter kits for the bellhousing and engine pattern
- Transfer case and AWD to RWD conversion parts
- Cooling and filtration for heat management
- Clutches and internals where the gearbox needs to hold more torque
- ZF 8HP gearboxes if you are still choosing the transmission itself
Buying sequence
- Identify the transmission: record the complete ZF 8HP designation and donor vehicle. “8HP” alone is not enough.
- Document the engine management: confirm the factory ECU or standalone ECU and the signals available to the transmission-control system.
- Choose the wiring path: check whether the listing includes a harness, requires a separate harness or uses a flying-lead installation.
- Plan driver inputs: confirm the shifter, keypad, paddles and displays in the shifters and controls range.
- Confirm setup support: decide who will wire, configure and validate the system before fabrication hides connectors or test points.
ZF 8HP controller FAQ
Can I choose an 8HP controller from the engine model alone?
No. Confirm the gearbox code, ECU, vehicle electronics, harness, shifter strategy and intended use before selecting a controller package.
Does every controller listing include a wiring harness?
Do not assume it does. The CanTCU CANFORMANCE package, the TurboLamik ZF8HP TCU and the TurboLamik TCU 2.0 package are listed with a harness. The CanTCU controller on its own, the MaxxECU controller and the Emtron TM16 module are listed without one, so budget the harness separately.
Why do two TurboLamik listings have different prices?
They are different packages. The $3,595 listing is the TCU with harness. The $4,397.24 listing adds the LCD screen, mode switch and the TCU 2.0 controller package.
Does a transmission controller solve mechanical fitment?
No. Adapter or bellhousing fitment, flexplate or converter strategy and cooling are separate. Work through the 8HP swap guides and the parts catalog alongside the electronics.
Which controller is cheapest for a complete 8HP swap?
On current listings the TurboLamik ZF8HP TCU with harness and the CanTCU CANFORMANCE package are both $3,595. If you already own the correct loom, the CanTCU controller alone at $2,639.32 is cheaper. Compare the included parts before deciding on price alone.
What should I send for a controller recommendation?
Gearbox code, donor vehicle, engine, ECU, driveline layout, shifter plan, power target and who will tune the car. That is enough to shortlist a controller, and it is the same information the contact form asks for.
