Liste de pièces et guide de conversion pour swap de boîte ZF 8HP

Most 8HP swaps do not fail because the gearbox was wrong. They stall because a $60 part was not ordered with the rest of the kit and the car sat on stands for three weeks waiting on it.

This is the complete parts list for a ZF 8HP conversion, grouped the way you actually buy it. Print it, tick it off, and order as one plan.

Plan first, buy second. Work out your controller, transmission variant and adapter combination before you order anything. Those three decisions determine everything else on this list.

Start with the three decisions that drive the whole list

Before you buy a single part, settle these:

  1. Which controller? TurboLamik, CanTCU or MaxxECU. This sets which 8HP variants you can run.
  2. Which 8HP variant? 8HP45, 8HP50, 8HP70, 8HP75, 8HP90 and so on. This sets your torque

headroom and your bellhousing options.

  1. Which adapter? Adapters are built for a specific engine and a specific 8HP bellhousing

pattern. This sets which donor transmissions will physically work.

Everything below is downstream of those three answers.

1. Transmission

The 8HP itself. When buying a used unit, check:

  • Variant and generation stamped or identifiable on the case
  • Bellhousing pattern matches the adapter you intend to run
  • Output flange type (BMW 3-bolt with varying PCD, Dodge slip yoke or large flange, Audi

and Jaguar large offset flange)

  • Converter included or not, and whether it is the converter matched to that unit
  • TCU present, since some controllers need specific TCU hardware numbers
  • Condition of the mechatronic unit, which is the expensive assembly inside

See our full guide on choosing a variant for the selection logic.

2. Engine to transmission adapters

The adapter plate that marries your engine block to the 8HP bellhousing.

Depending on the combination you may also need:

  • Crank spacer or a custom flexplate to reach the converter
  • Pilot bushing or a custom converter hub
  • Starter relocation provision if the factory starter position is lost

Order the adapter for your exact engine and 8HP version. "8HP70 adapter" is not specific enough, because bellhousing patterns differ between the engines an 8HP70 came from.

3. Transmission output and driveshaft interface

  • Output flange adapter to convert to a standard universal joint or slip yoke
  • Driveshaft to suit the new length and angle
  • Centre bearing / carrier provision if your chassis uses one
  • Yoke or companion flange matching the diff end

Do not guess driveshaft length. Measure once the gearbox is physically mounted in the car. Tunnel clearance work can move the output position and change your measurement.

4. Transmission controller (TCU)

  • Standalone controller: TurboLamik, CanTCU or MaxxECU, matched to your variant
  • Wiring loom or harness for the controller
  • Sensors the controller needs (engine speed, throttle, torque source if applicable)
  • Shifter interface, which differs between manual, electronic and paddle input
  • Loom for the 8HP itself if the donor did not include one

The controller choice has to come first, because it constrains your transmission options.

5. Shifter and paddles

  • Shifter assembly matching the controller's input type
  • Paddle shifters if you are running them
  • Shifter mount or bracket for your chassis and tunnel
  • Loom or connector between shifter and controller

Some 8HP configurations expect an electronic shifter input. Confirm what your controller supports before buying a shifter, and confirm what physically fits your tunnel.

6. Cooling system

The 8HP makes heat, and the cooling system is where budget builds cut corners and spend money twice.

  • Transmission cooler sized to your use, not just to a stock replacement
  • Cooler lines and fittings rated for the pressure and temperature
  • Thermostatic bypass if your setup benefits from faster warm-up
  • Cooler mounting with actual airflow, not tucked behind an intercooler
  • Fluid to the correct specification for your 8HP generation

Cooling deserves its own plan. Track use and towing change the requirement completely.

7. Electronics and integration

  • CAN bus wiring between controller, ECU and chassis
  • ECU integration if your engine ECU needs to exchange data with the TCU
  • Torque signal provision, either CAN-based or calculated, depending on your controller
  • Immobiliser solution if your chosen transmission generation requires one
  • Fusing, relays and power distribution

This is the section that most often delays a finished car. It is worth writing out the signal plan before you start crimping.

8. Cross members and brackets

  • Gearbox cross member to suit the 8HP mount position
  • Mount matched to the cross member
  • Chassis brackets where the factory items no longer fit
  • Clearancing work for larger variants

The 8HP90 and 8HP95 are physically larger than the smaller variants and more likely to need tunnel and cross member attention.

9. Fluids and service items

  • Correct fluid for the specific 8HP generation
  • Pan and filter assembly where serviceable
  • Sump gasket or seal kit
  • Sleeve and seal items for the converter and output areas
  • Fill and check tooling to set the level correctly

Fluid level setting on an 8HP is temperature dependent and is one of the most commonly botched steps in a conversion. Get the procedure right before you rely on the box.

10. The small things that stop the car moving

  • Fasteners in the correct grade and length for the adapter and flywheel
  • Dowels and locating pins
  • Wiring connectors, pins and seals for every loom you cut
  • Heat shielding near the tunnel and exhaust
  • Speedometer and signal provision for the chassis
  • Fluid drain pan and a clean workspace honest enough to spot a leak

Ordering it as one plan

Work down the list in the order above and note the dependency at each step:

Step Depends on
Transmission Controller support list
Adapter Specific engine and 8HP bellhousing pattern
Output / driveshaft Transmission mounted and measured
Controller and loom Chosen controller and variant
Shifter Controller input type and tunnel space
Cooling Intended use, not just stock replacement
Electronics Controller, ECU and chassis signals
Cross member Transmission position in chassis
Fluids 8HP generation

Getting these in the right order is the difference between a swap that takes a month and one that takes a season.

Where we come in

We supply 8HP conversion parts and can help spec a complete combination: gearbox, controller, adapter, shifter, cooling and the integration bits that are easy to forget. Tell us your engine, chassis and target power, and we will work out which combination actually fits before you order.
