Emtron TM16 Transmission Control Module

$4,180.00

The Emtron TM16 is a fully programmable Transmission Control Module (TCM) built for the most complex transmission and driveline control. For ZF 8HP swap builders running an Emtron ECU, it is the highest-capability transmission control option available: ZF 8HP support ships with a base calibration included, and the hardware is powerful enough to run sophisticated, no-compromise shift strategies.

What is the Emtron TM16?

The TM16 is Emtron's dedicated transmission control unit. Where an aftermarket ECU manages the engine, the TM16 manages the gearbox: solenoids, clutch control, shift scheduling, torque modelling and driveline safety. It is designed to be universally applicable, with firmware that is fully configurable rather than locked to preset transmission profiles. Every input, output and subsystem is configured on a case-by-case basis, which is what lets one TCM control everything from a ZF 8HP to a Nissan GR6 DCT.

ZF 8HP support with base calibration included

Per Emtron's own documentation, the ZF 8HP (multi-clutch) is a supported transmission for the TM16, with a base calibration included. That means an Emtron-equipped 8HP swap has a factory-tested starting point rather than a blank canvas. If your transmission is not on the supported list, that does not mean it cannot be controlled, it means the configuration work falls on the tuner.

Integration with Emtron ECUs

The TM16 integrates over CAN with all Emtron ECUs for fully torque-modelled shifting and downshift rev-matching with minimal setup. This is the OEM-quality driving experience path: the engine ECU and TCM talk torque requests and reduction targets natively.

Third-party ECU integration (important caveat)

The TM16 also carries two fully open, configurable CAN bus nodes, so it can send and receive data to integrate almost any third-party ECU, and critical signals such as engine speed and pedal position can be hardwired. However, Emtron states that outside the Emtron ecosystem, integration is provided as-is: the end user determines whether their platform can be used and how, and Emtron cannot provide technical support for third-party systems. If you run a Haltech, LinkECU, MoTeC or similar ECU, weigh this against controllers like CanTCU or TurboLamik that are built for cross-platform CAN integration.

Shifter inputs, drive modes and control flexibility

  • Wide shifter support: CAN bus, analog, digital switch arrays, individual switches, CAN keypads, or combinations.
  • Drive modes and map switching via CAN, rotary switches, fixed switches, sensor input or user logic.
  • Table axes can reference any of over 1500 channels.
  • Current-controlled outputs (target current in amps) instead of fixed duty cycle, for stable, repeatable solenoid position across voltage and temperature.
  • Every TCM output pin can operate in current control.

Who is the TM16 for?

The TM16 is the right choice when you are already in the Emtron ecosystem, or when you want the deepest level of transmission control flexibility and are prepared to commission the configuration. For 8HP swaps on non-Emtron ECUs, our CanTCU controller and TurboLamik TCU options may be a better fit. Talk to us about your build and we will point you at the right controller.

TM16 FAQ

Does the TM16 work with the ZF 8HP? Yes. Emtron lists ZF 8HP as a supported transmission with a base calibration included.

Does the TM16 work with non-Emtron ECUs? It has two open CAN nodes and wired critical inputs, so third-party integration is possible, but it is DIY and as-is with no official Emtron support outside their ecosystem.

What transmissions are supported? ZF 8HP, Nissan GR6 and Getrag GS7 are supported with base cals. PDK, DQ500, TR-9080, DL800, 6L80E, 6R80 and 10R80 are planned.

Do I need the ABC wiring harness? The TM16 is header-terminated. The TM16 ABC Wiring Harness provides all 94 pins terminated to the Emtron specification.
